Overview

The learning objectives will be based on two areas 1) urban design case studies and 2) supporting policy recommendations.
Physical; land use, urban design, mobility, parking, MXD development, & density.
Policy controls; zoning, Form Based Code, TIRZ, NEZ program, ordinances, & economic incentives.

1. Successful Downtown PLACEmaking - Introduction (5 minutes max.)

2. Examples of Planning with Urban Design that makes a PLACE – strategies to create PLACEmaking and bridge successful planning policy and urban design.
A.Urban Infill (Kurt’s sites will include) – 15 minutes max.

- Denton Downtown and Hickory St. Corridor; Denton, TX
- Historic Downtown Texarkana; Texarkana, TX and AK
D. Policy and Codes that reinforce and Controls PLACEmaking
- Zoning, Form Based Code, TIRZ,
- NEZ program, ordinances, & economic incentives

3.Roundtable Discussion – RL/BK/KS – 10 minutes max.

4.Q&A for Audience – 15 minutes max.

Session will be rich with downtown case study images and supporting codes and policies from each successful community.
