Overview

Understanding generational perspectives for community building: Participants will gain insights into ways to leave effective conversations with the community to bridge contrasting desires of between older and younger generations.

Woodway is situated in a unique regional context that presents both opportunities and challenges for its growth and development. While neighboring cities have experienced rapid urbanization and population growth, Woodway has managed to maintain its small-town charm and tranquil atmosphere. This has attracted residents seeking a quieter and more relaxed lifestyle away from the bustling metropolitan areas. However, this juxtaposition has also led to tensions as different generational demographics hold contrasting visions for the town's future.

In contrast to the nearby cities and the county, Woodway has seen relatively slower population growth and limited economic expansion. This has resulted in a demographic landscape that skews towards an older population, comprising retirees and long-term residents who value the town's traditional character and slower pace of life. However, there is also a growing younger demographic that seeks more opportunities, innovation, and a vibrant community that can compete with neighboring cities. This generational divide presents a unique challenge for Woodway as it strives to balance the desires of those who wish to maintain the town's nostalgic ambiance with the aspirations of the younger generation seeking progress and modernization. Navigating this delicate interplay between growth, tradition, and generational perspectives is crucial for Woodway to chart a sustainable and inclusive path forward.

The session will delve into communication strategies that promote active listening, empathy, and understanding, enabling participants to navigate sensitive conversations with tact and respect. Participants will gain practical techniques for reframing perspectives, fostering mutual learning, and encouraging collaboration between older and younger community members.
