Overview

In this session, the audience will become aware of the issues faced with the development and regulation of single family for rent communities and how some communities have addressed these issues.

Single Family For Rent Developments are becoming more popular in satisfying the ever-increasing housing demand and filling the housing shortage for “renters-by-choice”, starter homes, attainable housing, and the “missing middle” housing. Challenges include conformance to comprehensive plans, use definition, appropriate amenities, connectivity, proximity to transit, proximity to open space and parks, neighborhood design, and adjacency to other uses. This session will present regulatory challenges faced by cities and developers and best practices for developing and regulating Single Family-for-Rent developments.
