Overview

•         How to identify and engage necessary internal teams for implementation.
•         Tools to engage neighborhoods in the design process
•         The importance of thinking beyond just the park.
•         Identifying and joining various funding opportunities

Police and fire have always been aware of the neighborhood issues in an underserved area of Lewisville colloquially known as “The Triangle”, home to a diverse population of 4,952 with a median age of 28 and a median income of $35,376.  In 2019 the City of Lewisville received a grant from the Urban Land Institute, National Recreation and Park Association and The Trust for Public Land completed a 10 Minute Walk to a Park study for The Triangle. This study was the catalyst for a multi-department effort to bring much needed services to these residents. Parks, Planning, Neighborhood Services, Engineering, Police, and Fire have worked together to:
•         Purchase land for a new park
•         Host award-winning community engagement efforts for park design by TRAPS
•         Adopted an enhanced and robust Complete Streets Policy
•         Funded a new streetscape design.

In this session you will learn:
•         How to identify and engage necessary internal teams for implementation.
•         Tools to engage neighborhoods in the design process
•         The importance of thinking beyond just the park.
•         Identifying and joining various funding opportunities.
This is a great session for anyone who has identified underserved or forgotten communities in their cities which require a layered solution.
