Overview

What challenges and opportunities can be leveraged to ensure a strong economy and livable city in the face of stiff competition and proximity?

Texas is home to a number of world-class cities and economies, with a GPD higher than most countries. From employment to transportation to education, Texas cities offer a wide variety of options and opportunities for a huge population. But what does this mean for smaller cities like Corpus Christi, the 8th largest city in Texas? Home to the largest Port in the country by tonnage, Texas cultural staples Whataburger and Selena, and of course the coast, Corpus Christi is a unique and dynamic city that faces both challenges and opportunities related to its proximity to and competition with massive Texas cities such as Houston, Austin, and the Metroplex. How does Corpus Christi compete with employment, education, and other amenities in Texas’ larger cities while still retaining unique local values and culture? Can the City find a niche in the booming Texas economy for people who are looking for something different? What challenges and opportunities can be leveraged to ensure a strong economy and livable city in the face of stiff competition and proximity? Join representatives from the Port of Corpus Christi, the Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation, and the City of Corpus Christi to discuss these issues and more as we take on the dynamics of being Texas’ 8th largest city.
