Overview
Each panelist to share a project or projects where equity and inclusion were considered and/or implemented successfully – the challenges, solutions, and lessons learned.
Speakers:
Maurice Henderson - future of transportation/mobility in the US, the Dept. of Transportation’s current goals and priorities – what are they hoping to achieve and why? The various programs and grants – what should the municipalities know and how can they take advantage of these (IIJA, Reconnecting Communities etc.), and how can urban planners in Texas and across the Nation help their communities through the USDOT programs and policies.
Veronica Soto – future of housing in the US, the Dept. of Treasury’s current goals and priorities – what are they hoping to achieve and why? The various programs and grants – what should the municipalities know and how can they take advantage of these, and how can urban planners in Texas and across the Nation help their communities through the USDOT programs and policies.
Charles Hales – Experience as Mayor of Portland in dealing with federal policies at a local level, especially in transportation and housing. Challenges and opportunities for local government in applying/ using federal policies and grants. Advice for urban planners in Texas and across the Nation to help their communities achieve the same level of quality of life that Portland is known for.
