Expanding Cities: Empire-Building or Empire-Ending?
APA Texas Chapter
#9257768
Friday, October 21, 2022
3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. CDT
Overview
In this session, the age-old adage of growing a land base as an integral part of city governance will be examined in detail. Post-COVID context and examples from around the state will be used to provide a baseline for the session before delving deeper into the common arguments for annexation city leaders often hear. Time will be devoted to uncovering the true costs of development and expansion that cities tend to minimize or overlook altogether, so that attendees can begin shaping more robust conversations in their own communities about the role of stewardship and fiscal sustainability in the consideration of annexations.
