Overview

Cities of all sizes use ordinances and regulations to seemingly protect and enhance their overall community. What if those well-intentioned efforts actually work against the community? This is commonplace, and in this session, a re-examination of the impacts of those efforts will help attendees understand how scale, context, and philosophy are critical to creating a regulatory framework that achieves desired outcomes in a way that truly pays off. A new approach to code writing and updating is needed, and well within reach if the conversations surrounding them are facilitated by planners who can help their city leaders understand the connections between policy and fiscal productivity.
