Overview

Data-Driven Safety Analyses continue to evolve to assist the State DOT's vision zero programs by looking at historical, present, and future applications. This application, which proposes a more proactive safety analysis approach for multimodal systems, assists agencies and decision-makers in addressing high-risk roadway elements. The presentation covers the value of creative and proactive approaches to identify near- (0-4 years) and long-term (4+ year) multimodal strategies to support vision zero. Using Texas DOT’s multimodal planning initiatives as case studies, the presentation demonstrates the prioritization of safety deficient locations based on a set of identified roadway and traffic risk factors instead of relying solely on crash history.
