Tereney McDowell is a yoga instructor who leads several courses in the
Rowlett Parks and Recreation department.
Despite being a born and raised Iowan, Tereney McDowell always had dreams of
experiencing life in other places through travel or residency. However, she got to
Dallas, TX and decided to stay! Though most of her formative years she aspired to
become either a veterinarian or an educator and received a Bachelor of Liberal
Studies in Education from Iowa State University, life showed there were other
plans in store. After being invited to a yoga class by her mother in the winter of
2013, the passion for yoga ignited and she became a regular practitioner of yoga
to this day. Shortly after her first year of a steady yoga practice, she received her
200hr Yoga Teacher certification in the spring of 2015 at Tapas Yoga Shala in Rock
Island, IL. Just a week before moving to Texas! In the time since her relocation,
Tereney has spread the joys of yoga nationwide and throughout the DFW area at
several studios, currently serving as Lead Teacher at YogaSix White Rock, and
through her social media platform called DFW Yoga in Black. Tereney is a strong
believer that yoga, meditation, and mindfulness are practices that all can enjoy no
matter what stage of life one may find themself. Her style of teaching the physical
yoga practice is tailored around accessibility and ensuring every participant is
confident and comfortable within their practice. If you'd like to experience a class
with Tereney, you can find her teaching at YogaSix White Rock and Mvement Gym.
"There are no prerequisites for yoga, you simply dive right in! Your practice is
customizable. Make it your own depending on how you are feeling physically and
emotionally each and every day." ~Tereney McDowell
