Overview

Learn from a community that underwent a community-wide trail and bikeway master plan and leveraged that process to simultaneously receive several million dollars in grant funding to implement trail and bikeway projects.

The City of Garland, TX underwent a community-wide trail and bikeway master plan in 2019-2020 with several objectives: prioritize projects to fund with a recently approved bond package; assess the feasibility of specific trail corridors; and develop an overall recommended trail and bikeway network that balances active transportation with recreation opportunities.

During the course of the master plan process, the City successfully applied for and received approximately $8M in funding from Dallas County to design and construct several trail corridors. This session will discuss how the project team leveraged the overall master plan process to apply for funding and how implementation has been going since the master plan was adopted.

Speakers include Ziad Kharrat, the project manager with the City, and the project manager from the consultant team, Kendall Howard with Halff Associates.
