Overview
Panelists will share how local governments have come together as the North Texas RISE Coalition, to identify coordinated, regional efforts to share sustainable best practices and resources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, implement climate action strategies, and plan for equitable sustainability.
The North Texas Regional Integration of Sustainability Efforts (RISE) Coalition was formed in 2020 at the request of multiple cities in the North Central Texas (NCT) Region. The Coalition was created to help coordinate sustainability efforts among cities and other public entities. The Coalition currently comprises nine organizations with eight cities and one large water district. The Coalition works to share ideas, build local government capacity, and collaborate on various sustainability topics, programs, and needed tools and bridging communication and coordination with sectors such as private and educational institutions.
During this session, three Coalition member cities will discuss their sustainability and climate action planning initiatives. Panelists will also discuss the benefits of regional collaboration on sustainability and climate action planning initiatives and what they hope to hope to accomplish in the future through collaboration on topics including urban heat islands impacts, regional equity mapping, reducing food waste, and emission reduction strategies.
