    Responsibilities 

    The Senior City Planner is responsible for a diverse array of current and long-range planning duties. Requires participation in special projects, including but not limited to the revision of several development-related ordinances, management of updating Area Development Plans or other specific neighborhood plans, and ongoing implementation of the Comprehensive Plan.

    • Operate as lead planner by overseeing updates to the Comprehensive Plan, Area Development Plan, and other long range planning duties.
    • Assist with the administration of land use regulations, including but not limited review of subdivision and site development plans and analysis of rezoning requests.
    • Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned job tasks by supervising and evaluating elements of the planning team.
    • Assist Director with planning related items presented to the Planning Commission, City Council, City Management and internal staff.
    • Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned job tasks by supervising and evaluating elements of the planning team.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication and technical writing to include; create and interpret maps; maintain a large database of information for word processing, spreadsheet application, graphics and presentation software, email and calendaring, and planning and zoning software including geographic information systems (GIS).
    • Make long-range plans that account for a large volume of detailed information.
    • Comprehend and interpret technical manuals and ordinances.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, city officials, external consultants, and the general public.
    • Must be able to work independently and exercise exceedingly high levels of good judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
    • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications 

    • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree
    • Minimum of four (4) years of related experience
    • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
    • Master’s Degree preferred
    • American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) certification preferred
    • Must have knowledge of city development ordinances, subdivision and site plan design principles, relevant local, state and federal laws regarding planning and general planning principles
    • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
