    The Buda Economic Development Corporation, through the rapidly-growing City of Buda, TX, is seeking creative, energetic & highly motivated candidates to join its team and integrate with the City of Buda’s Planning team in the position of Planner II – Economic Development. This position is employed by the Buda Economic Development Corporation and is supervised by the City of Buda Director of Planning. A collaborative spirit and positive attitude are mandatory. The Planner II – Economic Development is responsible for providing moderate-to-advanced professional administration of planning, zoning, subdivision and general development-related processes programs and policies. This is accomplished by regular interaction with developers, local business, and general public to encourage action or resolve problems related to planning activities and projects, processing permit applications, evaluating compliance of applications with adopted codes and policies, preparation of reports, responding to requests from the public and city offices and commissions, and resolving applicant disputes. Other duties include updating & implementing City and Buda EDC long-range plans, and providing staff support to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, Historic Preservation Commission, Buda EDC Board of Directors, and City Council. Other duties include various assignments from Director of Planning, though additional assignments may be coordinated with the Buda EDC Executive Director.


    In addition, the Planner II – Economic Development is expected to play a critical creative role in the development of new policies and continuing initiatives, which can include significant opportunities to collaborate with other departments. The position is also expected to develop and provide information regarding economic development programs and grants to staff and the public. In addition, the Planner II – Economic Development to shape the implementation of the new Unified Development Code.


    The position will involve direct involvement in both current and long-range planning activities.

Jobs Requirements

  • Experience:

    The preferred candidate possesses at least 2 years of relevant practical experience in a planning & land development setting. The preferred candidate also possesses knowledge and experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and plan graphics for a variety of audiences. AICP or CEcD certification, or a career path toward such certification, is preferred.

  • Skills:

    Knowledge of planning principles and practices, including pertinent specialties.
    Knowledge of principles, methodology, practices of research and data collection.
    Skill in performing independent technical research and presenting findings pertaining to planning and zoning and other departments.
    Knowledge of basic economic development principles and practices
    Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
    Skill in using computers for data entry.
    Skill in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
    Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
    Knowledge of statistical, algebraic or geometricpractices; apply such knowledge in practical situations.
    Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
    Ability to organize and communicate effectively.
    Ability to cordially communicate with and develop effective working relationship with design professionals, the public, and colleagues.
    Ability to remain flexible and open to new ideas and encourages others to value change.
    Ability to identify ways to incorporate new practices into existing framework.
    Ability to work well under pressure and stress; meet deadlines; plan, organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.

  • Education Required:

    A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Construction Management, Public Administration, Social Sciences or related fields is required.
