    The City of Kennedale, Texas, is seeking candidates for the role of Community Development Director.     The Community Development Director is responsible for providing overall management, coordination, and enforcement of building codes and ordinances; and regulation of the community development, planning, and permitting functions for urban development needs. The Director is also responsible for planning activities, including: a variety of highly technical planning tasks; plan review for developments, sites, plats, and other submittal documents; research and preparation of reports and agendas for the Planning and Zoning Commission; formal presentation to City Council of recommendations for development and land uses in accordance with City codes, ordinances, and regulations; assisting the general public and the development community regarding matters and concerns related to land use, development, and zoning; promptly responding to frequent inquiries; delivering clear and authoritative communication of policy and ordinance requirements to the public and the development community; the receipt and processing of applications; the research,  preparation, and presentation of cases to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, Building Board of Appeals, City Council, and other boards, as required; and regular attendance at community meetings, events, and work sessions. The ideal candidate must also utilize utilitarian decision-making, be trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality, have a dedication to public service, and be comfortable working as part of a team.

Jobs Requirements

  • Skills:

    Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to maintain working relationships with residents, businesses, coworkers and outside agencies is also required. The successful candidate must demonstrate intrinsic motivation, high ethical and moral standards, and have regular, reliable attendance, the ability to work well under stressful conditions including irate customers, and work within deadlines.   • Computer Skills:

    This role also requires a proficiency in using computer software applications, including CAD or GIS.

  • Education Required:

    Requires a Bachelor’s (Master’s degree preferred) in planning or related field; municipal experience preferred.
