Hurricanes Harvey and Sandy Dialogues Webinar #2
Hurricanes strike a major blow to tourism that fuels our coastal economies.
Buildings and beaches may be damaged by the storm; however, our speakers will describe how both coastal New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy and the Rockport/Fulton region of Texas after Hurricane Harvey, used the return of tourism dollars to help accelerate a resilient recovery. The panel will address how they prioritized investments and created marketing campaigns to attract visitors. We will also compare the public and private economic tools and funding sources used for recovery in each state. As a case study, we will explore how the Downtown Rockport Plan, being prepared by the APA Funded Recovery Planning Assistance Team (RPAT) put these strategies into practice. Both Texas and New Jersey panelists will address how community, regional and state plans in place continue to provide a foundation for rebuilding a more resilient economy and returning residents to their homes.
