The APA-Texas Chapter made great strides this year to increase our state advocacy efforts. The Chapter organized its first Planners' Day at the Capitol where we met with over 30 state legislators and their staff members and were recognized on both the House and Senate floors. We successfully introduced a bill (HB 3314), which was passed, that allows cities the ability to remove public hearing requirements for residential replats that meet all local subdivision requirements. And with the leadership of APATX member Abra Nusser, AICP, we assisted Abra with gathering over 1,000 signatures to ask Governor Abbott to Veto HB 2439. As part of this effort, we submitted a letter to the Governor in partnership with the American Society of Landscape Architects - Texas Chapter.

While we had successes, we also have new bills that were passed that will affect our local ordinances and development procedures. This includes the 30-day plat and plan approval shot clock, annexation bills, property tax revenue caps, local historic landmark consent bill, and the building material's preemption bill.

Join us for this webinar as we wrap-up the 86th Texas Legislature and discuss strategies on how cities are amending their ordinances and procedures to offset the negative impacts of the legislation. You can register for this webinar here: REGISTER. Webinar will be eligible for 1.5 Law CM.
