Resilient Series: Planning for Flood Resilient Communities

Planners play a critical role in defining what a resilient community and region looks like in the future. One important element of resilience in North Central Texas is considering flood hazards. Many times communities build, then are damaged by floods, and then rebuild. How can planners help promote flood resiliency? This session will explore how the perspectives of planners and floodplain managers can come together in a more holistic view to prepare a community to be more resilient in the face of potential flood hazards. Case studies will be included to demonstrate practical approaches to addressing flood hazard mitigation during the planning process.
