The APA Texas Planning Awards Program recognizes individuals,
organizations and communities for outstanding contributions to planning
in Texas. Any APA Texas member may nominate plans, projects,
programs, individuals, or organizations to several categories.
Nominated plans, projects, programs, and studies must have been
completed within two years of the nomination submittal date. The
Awards Committee evaluates nominees based on innovation,
transferability, quality, implementation, and comprehensiveness.
The 2008 APA Texas Planning Awards were announced at the APA Texas Conference in El Paso. |

This year, your
Awards Committee met in the Hill Country at Concan to review and vote on
the 42 submittals. This number of nominations ties a previous record.
Due to the timing of Hurricane Ike there were three Sections not
represented on the Committee. These were the Houston, Southeast and
Central Sections. The Committee met at 8:30 am on Saturday September 13th
to consider the submittals. As is often the case, there were some new
faces to the Committee and some who have served before. The process was
informative and enjoyable. Thank you to those that served.
Please join your
professional and Commissioner peers at the APA Texas Chapter conference
in early February 2009 to support the 2008 award recipients. I
encourage you and your employer(s) to consider submitting a nomination(s)
for next year’s Awards program.
