Bill filing for 2017 legislative session began on November 14, and a new record was set for most bills “pre-filed” on first day. (Around 500 were filed that day)

Legislative bill filing is basically complete as of March 10th.  As of that deadline, approximately 5200 House bills and 2700 Senate bills had been filed for a total of over 8,000 bills (a new record).  (compared to 6,476 two years ago).  TML is tracking a whopping 1300+ bills that would affect cities, more than 80% of them negatively.  There were a lot of new bills introduced in the last week, including more on trees, payday lenders and the new wireless bills for use of the ROW.
