  • Description:

    Under the direction of the Planning Director, performs professional and technical planning assignments related to current and long-range planning, such as drafting of policy and ordinance amendments, and updates to adopted plans. Performs development review assignments and project management. Will be primarily involved in processing land-use related applications, and preparation of reports and recommendations. Duties include ordinance amendments and assisting in presentation of agendas to Planning and Zoning Commission, Downtown Design Review Board, and Board of Review for Landmarks and Historic Preservation. Will also be responsible for preparing and at times, delivering presentations to City Council. Will coordinate and manage current planning case load and assist with long-range plans and other studies as assigned. Fills in for the Director as needed.

Jobs Requirements

  • Experience:

    Five years planning related experience (with Bachelor's degree); or four years planning related experience (with Master's degree). GIS software experience preferred. AICP preferred. A Texas driver's license required.

  • Skills:

    Must have knowledge of the fundamental principles, concepts, and practices of urban planning and the development process.
    Must have effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be skilled in researching, analyzing, generating data and formulating conclusions and recommendations.
    Must maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

  • Computer Skills:

    Knowledgeable in the operation of software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet applications, geographic information systems, data base applications and presentation.

  • Education Required:

    Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in urban planning or closely related field.
