    The City of Rowlett, Texas, is accepting applications for one open position.   The position will be filled as either a Planner II or Senior Planner, depending upon qualifications.

    The City of Rowlett is located within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, in eastern Dallas County and western Rockwall County.  The downtown area is conveniently located on the DART Blue Line (Mass Transit), and has a great mix of residential and commercial development.  Development is booming in Rowlett, and with this position you will have the opportunity to be the project manager for new developments within the City.

    The position closes 2/17/17.

    Planner II

    Starting Salary: $49,291.69 Annually

    Minimum qualifications:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban and/or Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration or related field, with three years of related experience; or a Master's degree with major coursework in Urban Planning or related field, and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.  Valid Texas Class "C" driver's license. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.

    Senior Planner

    Starting Salary: $64,864.50 Annually

    Minimum qualifications:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban and/or Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration or related field, with five years of related experience. A Master's degree with major coursework in Urban Planning or related field is preferred.  Valid Texas Class "C" driver's license. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her department director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.  

    AICP Certification is highly preferred for both positions.  CNU-A Accreditation is also desireable.

    Private Development & Development Code Administration

    -Processes planning and zoning cases by reviewing development proposals. Ensures applicant's submission meets requirements; coordinates development proposals, reviews with other departments; prepares technical comments and compiles zoning history information for each case; ensures additional or revised information is provided by applicant; prepares graphics for each case; prepares memos, reports and details for final packet printing and distribution; prepares and reviews legal ads prior to mailing and newspaper submission.
    -Confers with citizens, architects, engineers, builders, etc. on general zoning and submission regulations and policies;
    -Researches history and background of zoning ordinances and various projects for other city departments and the general public.
    -Processes general planning and zoning information requests over the telephone and walk-in traffic.
    -Maintains zoning and site plan files; reviews and recommends revision to the subdivision and zoning ordinances.
    -Reviews and recommends revision to the subdivision and zoning ordinances.
    -Reviews Council/Commission approval notes regarding planning and zoning cases; prepares ordinances, submits to appropriate departments for review and approval; researches property ownership and participates in all comprehensive planning activities and other special studies and projects. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.
