    Participates in the development of comprehensive plans and programs for utilization of land and physical facilities within the City’s jurisdiction, involves professional level duties and judgment, and provides highly complex staff assistance to the Senior Planner and Planning Department.



    Regular and timely attendance at work.


    Reviews building permit and site plan applications for compliance with applicable regulations.


    Conducts necessary fieldwork such as photograph documentation, windshield surveys, and other planning related functions.


    Processes zone changes, conditional use permits, variances, and plat applications; prepares public notices and conducts property ownership research; assists customers with related planning and development questions.


    Compiles and analyzes data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use, and prepares graphic and narrative reports on data.


    Prepares and presents oral and written technical reports to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustments, City Council, and the general public.


    Confers with local authorities, civic leaders, and land planning and development specialists to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, industrial, and community uses.


    Collects variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics such as census information, lands use, tax data base, and occupancy rates.

Jobs Requirements

  • Experience:

    One (1) to two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional planning administration experience, in municipal government, preferred.

  • Skills:

    Ability to deal effectively, professionally, and ethically with the public and government officials.

    Ability to read, review, and analyze legal descriptions, site plans, and other related planning documents.

    Knowledge of zoning laws and comprehensive plans including their formation, process of adoption, State Code, and general building codes.

    Knowledge of Geographical Information System mapping functions.

  • Education Required:

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in geography, urban planning, public administration, engineering or closely related field is required.

    Any equivalent of combination of education and experience may qualify.

    Master Degree preferred.
