Reduced 2008 AICP Exam Fee Scholarships

AICP strongly encourages those with financial hardships to become AICP members by taking advantage of the Reduced Exam Fee Scholarship program. This program offers assistance to those individuals who may defer taking or are unable to take the AICP exam because of the high cost. There are three scholarships available for Texas planners in 2008.

Scholarship recipients pay reduced fees to AICP as follows:
First time AICP applicants: $125 (combined $60 application and $65 exam fee)
Previously approved AICP applicants: $65 (exam fee only)
The deadline is January 11, 2008 for the May 2008 testing window. Applicants will be notified on January 22, 2008 of the scholarship selection.

Reduced AICP Exam Fee Scholarship Selection Criteria

Applicants shall submit a written explanation of financial hardship (including financial hardship caused by a budget cutback in a firm or agency), which necessitates the request. This should be in the form of a letter, no more than 2 pages. The letter needs to include the applicant’s APA identification number. Preference is given to:
· Members of ethnic or racial minorities;
· Applicants who otherwise will be unlikely to take the exam without the reduced fee.
· Applicants whose employer will not subsidize the exam fee.

Applications should be submitted by January 11, 2008 via e-mail or regular mail to:

Ohio State University - Online City and Regional Planning Program

It can be a challenge for working professionals to find the time to take graduate courses in planning.  To help solve this problem, the Ohio State University is now offering a series of on-line courses designed for the working professional.  The on-line graduate certificate program in Facilities Planning and Management offers working professionals an opportunity to expand their education from the convenience of your home or office.  Each ten-week course is taught at a graduate level by a faculty member at Ohio State University. Students can participate at their convenience each week from any computer with an Internet connection.

There are no scheduled class meetings. Participants view audio/video lectures, discuss issues, work on projects, take examinations, and consult with faculty. The courses include hand-on experience that includes case studies, team work, and in-depth projects. All courses are available for transfer to other universities toward a graduate degree.

The following courses are scheduled to begin in 2006:

City Planning Administration:  January - April
Programming Environments for Urban Use:  April - June
Real Estate Finance for Planners:  June - August
Practicum in Facilities Planning and Management:  September - December

Participants can choose to take one or all of the courses.  Upon completion of all four courses, participants receive a Certificate in Facilities Planning and Management from the Ohio State University.  Each course costs $1,100 or the certificate program may be paid up front for a discounted rate of $4,000.   Registration for the January start date is available through November 1, 2005.
